At East Coast Roast, we are super excited to be hiring a new sales rep to help us grow the business on the Gold Coast.
About East Coast Roast
East Coast Roast has its origins dating back almost 20 years on the Gold Coast. Formally Cre8ive Coffee, we are now under new ownership, have a new fresh rebrand and a great small but dedicated team.
We supply hundreds of cafe’s on the Gold Coast including some of the city’s biggest and best locations, with both coffee roasted in our Nerang Roastery, and other cafe supplies like powders, syrups and plant based milks.
About the role
The Sales Rep has 2 primary responsibilities:
- Maintain relationships with existing customers, keeping them happy and engaged with the brand. A decent part of this is making sure their equipment is in good shape and we are organised with our preventative maintenance (outsourced).
- Bringing in new cafe customers for cafe supplies and coffee. This requires the successful applicant to be on top of new cafe openings, cafe’s changing hands and other opportunities in the market.
We are willing to consider someone who’s keen to work full time or part time.
The ideal candidate will have all of these attributes, however we have a great existing team who can compliment the Sales Rep if they are stronger in some areas and not others.
Personality and communication – We are after someone who will do a great job building relationships with cafe owners, and representing the brand. In person communication skills are critical, as are written communication, for things like writing proposals.
Coffee knowledge and passion – We love coffee and our Sales Rep needs to be a coffee lover, and have a good set of skills around coffee. These would include some basic knowledge of coffee regions, the roasting process, barista skills, dialling in grinders and basic coffee machine maintenance.
Sales – In the end the thing that will make you succeed in the role is whether or not you can bring in business. Sales is not for everyone, it can be a hard slog at times, we need to see existing customers sticking around, and new customers coming on board.
Organisation skills – A great rep has to be self motivated and organised. A typical day will involve around 10 site visits to cafes, ideally in a logical area to be as efficient as possible. Leads need to be nurtured over time, so we use a CRM that needs to be regularly updated, not letting any opportunities go to waste.
Finance understanding – It’s critical for sales reps to have a decent understanding of finances. We have calculators to work out pricing and profit on sales, and the rep needs to be able to know when a deal is good for the business and when it’s not.
Equipment – A big part of coffee sales is managing our fleet of equipment including coffee machines and grinders. We outsource equipment maintenance, but the rep is often the first on the scene when there are equipment issues and they need to have a decent understanding of machines and ideally can help with some of the level 1 fixes like water filters, seals and screens, grinder blades etc.
We’re fully Gold Coast owned and made and operate out of a great location in the Industrial precinct in Nerang, or as we call it the Gateway to the Gold Coast. Training and handover will be provided, however our ideal candidate will come with a coffee background and some sales experience.
